ALL LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO LHS SENIORS

SPRING 2026

Note: Scholarship due dates are updated as best as we know at LHS. The last update was made on April 14, 2026. If a scholarship is in italics, it is because we have not yet heard from that organization about this year’s scholarship. Stay tuned!. 

APRIL

  • Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative Scholarship. 

Due April 24th. Two for $1,000.
Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative (REC) and Plumas-Sierra Telecommunications will be offering two $1,000 scholarships in a program designed to enhance the education and resulting careers of deserving rural students. All interested students are invited and encouraged to apply. Application here. To qualify, applicants must be at least a senior in high school with no upper age limit, and their primary residence in Plumas, Lassen, Sierra or Washoe counties must be supplied with either electric power through Plumas-Sierra REC, or telecommunications services through its subsidiary.


  • Plumas-Sierra County Farm Bureau. 

Postmarked by April 15th. Email [email protected] for the application, if needed, or if you have questions. Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:
1. Be an immediate family member of a Plumas-Sierra County Farm Bureau voting member in good standing. Applicants may have any college major or be attending a trade school with any major.
2. Be a Plumas-Sierra County Farm Bureau Collegiate Member and a graduate or graduating from Plumas or Sierra County High School, majoring in an agricultural field at an accredited junior college, college, or trade school. You must be a collegiate member by the date of your submitted application.


  • Kenneth Alexander Memorial Scholarship. Due April 24th. Two scholarships for $1000.

One requirement only: write an essay explaining why you feel you deserve this scholarship. Please MAIL the application to: PO Box 822, Loyalton, CA 96118. It MUST be postmarked by April 15th.


  • Local SPTA (Sierra-Plumas Teachers Association) Scholarship

LHS or DHS Common Scholarship Application. Due April 18th. Two at $500, one for LHS and one for DHS.
Requirements:

LHS or DHS Common Scholarship Application.

  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Official Transcript.
  • Activities Resume: demonstration of leadership through school activities, community service and/or participation in athletics.
  • MAIL or hand deliver the entire application packet to Laurie Petterson, SPTA President, c/o Loyalton Elementary School, P.O. Box 127, Loyalton, CA 96118.

  • John C. Bechen Memorial Scholarship. 

Due April 30th. Scholarships for amounts to-be-determined each for all-around students headed to 4-year college/university, who have superior scholastic records and who are involved in extra-curricular activities. Please give a complete application packet to Mrs. Griffin: PO Box 37; Loyalton, CA 96118.

  • Edna Gottardi Memorial Scholarship. 
  • $500. Due April 30th.

  • Short essay on how arts education (Visual and Performing Arts) have benefitted your life during high school. Due to Mrs. Griffin by April 25th
 
  • Plumas-Sierra Cattleman's Association Scholarships

    Graduating senior of a Plumas or Sierra County high school, or continuing college student, and looking to earn some extra money towards education? If yes, then consider applying for the Plumas-Sierra Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship! They are offering 2 scholarships for 2026:
    One for a Qualifying Graduating High School Senior, One for a Qualifying Continuing College Student

  • SIERRA VALLEY ROPING CLUB 2026 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION 

Applicants must meet the following requirements: 

  • Attend Loyalton High School, be a Loyalton High School graduate, or be a current SVRC dues-paying member. 
  • Be majoring in an Agricultural Field (such as Agriculture Business, Agriculture Education or Animal Science) OR be a member of a family deriving its income from agriculture OR be a Roping Club Member.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS CHECKLIST: 

  • Mail the completed application form to the Sierra Valley Roping Club Scholarship Committee at the address below. The application must be postmarked by May 1, 2026. Winners will be announced at the Loyalton High School Spring Banquet and/or any other Sierra-Plumas High School via their senior awards night. Any recipient selected from a college will be informed via telephone.

  • Leonard H.A. Franz Scholarship 

offered by the Plumas Association of REALTORS. Due May 1st.  Mail completed application to: Plumas Association of REALTORS, 2056 E. Main Street, Suite #1, Quincy, CA 95971-9586. Please contact Mrs. Perez at [email protected] for a copy of the application or check the psrec website.
Qualifications:

  • Must have attended LHs for at least four (4) semesters (junior and senior year).
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

   Requirements:

  • Leonard H.A. Franz Scholarship application
  • Activities resume with log of hours and activities to support community service and work experience.
  • Letter of recommendation from an employer or community member (not a school employee).  
  • Personal statement, as described in the application.

  • Sierra Valley Shooting Park

Postmarked by May 8th.  $500 scholarship. The award will be distributed after one semester or quarter, college grades showing a minimum of 3.0 GPA and no less than 12 units taken, are sent to the committee along with proof of enrollment for the next semester/quarter.
Qualifications:
Be a member or have an immediate family member in good standing with the Sierra Valley Gun Club, AND be a high school senior.

Requirements:

  • SVSP Application (see Mrs. Perez)
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher and one from a coach or counselor.
  • Submit an official high school transcript in a sealed envelope with the official seal.
  • Applicant must be willing to appear for a personal interview with the scholarship committee.
  • Submit completed application with everything to the Sierra Valley Shooting Park Scholarship Committee by no later than May 9th. Mail to: Sierra Valley Gun Club, Attn: Scholarship Committee, PO Box 399, Portola, CA 96122.

  • LHS Booster Club Scholarship

 Due May 10th. Scholarship award numbers and amounts will be determined by the scholarship committee. Please see Mrs. Perez to request a scholarship application at [email protected]. Postmarked by May 10th and send to: Loyalton Booster Club, P.O. Box 1000, Loyalton, CA 96118.

Requirements:

  • Booster Club Application (NOT the LHS Common App)
  • Letter of recommendation from a coach
  • Write a short 2-3 paragraph essay on the following subject: “Why I deserve the scholarship and how my parents and I helped with the Booster Club.”
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Official transcript

  • Veterans of Foreign Wars “Assist a Grad” Scholarship Program. 

Due April 28th. The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generations. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in winning a $500 scholarship to assist you in furthering your education post-high school, please apply for our “Assist a Grad” Scholarship. The application deadline is May 5th.

Requirements:

  • LHS Common Application and official transcript
  • Have a 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Include a paragraph that explains how you are related to a veteran.
  • Committed to a 4-year or 2-year/tech school for the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Winners must send in proof of school and course registration in the fall of 2023 to receive the scholarship funds. Please give the completed application to Mrs. Griffin at Loyalton High School.

  • Sierra Valley Home Center Business and Trade Scholarship Due May 8th. $1,000. See Mrs. Perez.

  • Loyalton Middle School Sports Scholarship. 

Application due May 15th. See Mrs. Perez.
Qualifications:

  • played a sport every year, 6th- 8th grades
  • LHS senior

Requirements:

  • Submit completed application by May 15th Postmarked
  • (They are in Mrs. Perez’s room).
  • 2.0 GPA, 2 letters of recommendation, one from a teacher and one from a coach
  • high school transcripts
  • sports resume with coach’s names and sports played
  • willing to appear for an interview

  • Liberty Utilities Scholarship.

Application due May 12th. $1000 Scholarship. Please turn in to Mrs. Griffin.

  • LHS Common Scholarship Application
  • Must have an unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Must be accepted to an accredited 4-year or 2-year university or college, or an accredited vocational school.
  • Must have some community service experience within the community in which you reside.
  • Essay (350 word maximum). Please present your opinion on the relevance or importance of renewable energy, electric applications and transportation, natural resource sustainability, and/or environmental stewardship in your community, country, or the world. You may discuss any aspect(s) of the topics such as environmental impact, economic implications, political influence, social adoption, etc.


  • The Sierra County Employee Association 

Due May 15th.
Qualifications:

  • LHS Graduate NOT required to be attending college or post-secondary school in the fall. Any senior may apply! The award is based on the merit of the essay question only.

Requirements:

  • Submit a 250-500 word essay.  See Mrs. Perez for details.

  • Little League Scholarship

 Due May 15th. Requirements: LHS Common App plus a short essay describing a positive experience from Little League. Please turn in to Mrs. Griffin. 


  • Musica Sierra Scholarships

Due May 21st. 2 scholarships: one art-focused, the other music-focused. $350 each.

  • E. Clampus Vitus 1849 Scholarship

Due May 24th.  Scholarship in the amount of $1,849.
Requirements: James J. Sinnott/ Norm Nielsen Scholarship application (see Mrs. Perez), emailed to Mr. Richard Stark at [email protected] with “Scholarship Application” in the subject line. Email must be received by May 24th by 11:59 pm.



  • Rotary Club of Loyalton 2026 Scholarship Competition. 

Applications for the academic, community service, Emily Wilbanks (female athletic scholarship), Dick Wiggin Community Service, and Leland Cross Art/Tech scholarships are due Monday, May 11, at 5 pm. Interviews on Wednesday, May 13th, starting at 5:30 PM in the library. Five scholarships between $500 – $1,000 each.

Please give 3 completed scholarship packets to Mrs. Griffin to pass on to the Rotary Scholarship Committee members.

  • An official, sealed, current academic transcript from LHS that includes a list of courses in progress for the spring semester.
    Note: The Emily Wilbanks Scholarship requires an additional applicant questionnaire AND a recommendation form that needs to be completed by a coach. These go with the Common Application and the LHS transcript. Please see Mrs. Perez for this information.
